आप सभी को शिर्डी के साईं बाबा ग्रुप की और से साईं-वार की हार्दिक शुभ कामनाएं , हम प्रत्येक साईं-वार के दिन आप के समक्ष बाबा जी की जीवनी पर आधारित श्री साईं सच्चित्र का एक अध्याय प्रस्तुत करने के लिए श्री साईं जी से अनुमति चाहते है , हमें आशा है की हमारा यह कदम घर घर तक श्री साईं सच्चित्र का सन्देश पंहुचा कर हमें सुख और शान्ति का अनुभव करवाएगा, किसी भी प्रकार की त्रुटी के लिए हम सर्वप्रथम श्री साईं चरणों में क्षमा याचना करते है...



श्री साई सच्चरित्र - अध्याय 40 - श्री साईबाबा की कथाएँ

1. श्री. बी. व्ही. देव की माता के उघापन उत्सव में सम्मिलित होना, और

2. हेमाडपंत के भोजन-समारोह में चित्र के रुप में प्रगट होना ।



इस अध्याय में दो कथाओं का वर्णन है



1. बाबा किस प्रकार श्रीमान् देव की मां के यहाँ उघापन में सम्मिलित हुए । और

2. बाबा किस प्रकार होली त्यौहार के भोजन समारोह के अवसर पर बाँद्रा में हेमाडपंत के गृह पधारे ।



प्रस्तावना

श्री साई समर्थ धन्य है, जिनका नाम बड़ा सुन्दर है । वे सांसारिक और आध्यात्मिक दोनों ही विषयों में अपने भक्तों को उपदेश देते है और भक्तों को अपनी जीवनध्येय प्राप्त करने में सहायता प्रदान कर उन्हें सुखी बनाते है । श्री साई अपना वरद हस्त भक्तों के सिर पर रखकर उन्हें अपनी शक्ति प्रदान करते है । वे भेदभाव की भावना को नष्ट कर उन्हें अप्राप्य वस्तु की प्राप्ति कराते है । भक्त लोग साई के चरणों पर भक्तिपूर्वक गिरते है और श्री साईबाबा भी भेदभावरहित होकर प्रेमपूर्वक भक्तों को हृदय से लगाते है । वे भक्तगण में ऐसे सम्मिलित हो जाते है, जैसे वर्षाऋतु में समुद्र नदियों से मिलता तथा उन्हें अपनी शक्ति और मान देता है । इससे यह सिदृ होता है कि जो भक्तों की लीलाओं का गुणगान करते है, वे ईश्वर को उन लोगों से अपेक्षाकृत अधिक प्रिय है, जो बिना किसी मध्यस्थ के ईश्वर की लीलाओं का वर्णन करते है ।



श्री मती देव का उघापन उत्सव

श्री. बी. व्ही. देव डहाणू (जिला ठाणे) में मामलतदार थे । उनकी माता ने लगभग पच्चीस या तीस व्रत लिये थे, इसलिये अब उनका उघापन करना आवश्यक था । उघापन के साथ-साथ सौ-दो सौ ब्राहमणों का भोजन भी होने वाला था । श्री देव ने एक तिथि निश्चित कर बापूसाहेब जोग को एक पत्र शिरडी भेजा । उसमें उन्होंने लिखा कि तुम मेरी ओर से श्री साईबाबा को उघापन और भोजन में सम्मिलित होने का निमंत्रण दे देना और उनसे प्रार्थना करना कि उनकी अनुपस्थिति में उत्सव अपूर्ण ही रहेगा । मुझे पूर्ण आशा है कि वे अवश्य डहाणू पधार कर दास को कृतार्थ करेंगे । बापूसाहेब जोग ने बाबा को वह पत्र पढ़कर सुनाया । उन्होंने उसे ध्यानपूर्वक सुना और शुदृ हृदय से प्रेषित निमंत्रण जानकर वे कहने लगे कि जो मेरा स्मरण करता है, उसका मुझे सदैव ही ध्यान रहता है । मुझे यात्रा के लिये कोई भी साधन – गाड़ी, ताँगा या विमान की आवश्यकता नहीं है । मुझे तो जो प्रेम से पुकारता है, उसके सम्मुख मैं अविलम्ब ही प्रगट हो जाता हूँ । उसे एक सुखद पत्र भेज दो कि मैं और दो व्यक्तियों के साथ अवश्य आऊँगा । जो कुछ बाबा ने कहा था, जोग ने श्री. देव को पत्र में लिखकर भेज दिया । पत्र पढ़कर देव को बहुत प्रसन्नता हुई, परन्तु उन्हें ज्ञात था कि बाबा केवल राहाता, रुई और नीमगाँव के अतिरिक्त और कहीं भी नहीं जाते है । फिर उन्हें विचार आया कि उनके लिये क्या असंभव है । उनकी जीवनी अपार चमत्कारों से भरी हुई है । वे तो सर्वव्यापी है । वे किसी भी वेश में अनायास ही प्रगट होकर अपना वचन पूर्ण कर सकते है । उघापन के कुछ दिन पूर्व एक सन्यासी डहाणू स्टेशन पर उतरा, जो बंगाली सन्यासियों के समान वेशभूषा धारण किये हुये था । दूर से देखने में ऐसा प्रतीत होता था कि वह गौरक्षा संस्था का स्वंयसेवक है । वह सीधा स्टेशनमास्टर के पास गया और उनसे चंदे के लिये निवेदन करने लगा । स्टेशनमास्टर ने उसे सलाह दी कि तुम यहाँ के मामलेदार के पास जाओ और उनकी सहायता से ही तुम यथेष्ठ चंदा प्राप्त कर सकोगे । ठीक उसी समय मामलेदार भी वहाँ पहुँच गये । तब स्टेशन मास्टर ने सन्यासी का परिचय उनसे कराया और वे दोनों स्टेशन के प्लेटफाँर्म पर बैठे वार्तालाप करते रहे । मामलेदार ने बताया कि यहाँ के प्रमुख नागरिक श्री. रावसाहेब नरोत्तम सेठी ने धर्मार्थ कार्य के निमित्त चन्दा एकत्र करने की एक नामावली बनाई है । अतः अब एक और दूसरीनामावली बनाना कुछ उचित सा प्रतीत नहीं होता । इसलिये श्रेयस्कर तो यही होगा कि आप दो-चार माह के पश्चात पुनः यहाँ दर्शन दे । यह सुनकर सन्यासी वहाँ से चला गया और एक माह पश्चात श्री. देव के घर के सामने ताँगे से उतरा । तब उसे देखकर देव ने मन ही मन सोचा कि वह चन्दा माँगने ही आया है । उसने श्री. देव को कार्यव्यस्त देखकर उनसे कहा श्रीमान् । मैं चन्दे के निमित्त नही, वरन् भोजन करने के लिये आया हूँ ।

देव ने कहा बहुत आनन्द की बात है, आपका सहर्ष स्वागत है ।



सन्यासी – मेरे साथ दो बालक और है ।



देव – तो कृपया उन्हें भी साथ ले आइये ।



भोजन में अभी दो घण्टे का विलम्ब था । इसलिये देव ने पूछा – यदि आज्ञा हो तो मैं किसी को उनको बुलाने को भेज दूँ ।



सन्यासी – आप चिंता न करें, मैं निश्चित समय पर उपस्थित हो जाऊँगा ।



देव ने उने दोपहर में पधारने की प्रार्थना की । ठीक 12 बजे दोपहर को तीन मूर्तियाँ वहाँ पहुँची और भोज में सम्मिलित होकर भोजन करके वहाँ से चली गई ।



उत्सव समाप्त होने पर देव ने बापूसाहेब जोग को पत्र में उलाहना देते हुए बाबा पर वचन-भंग करने का आरोप लगाया । जोग वह पत्र लेकर बाबा के पास गये, परन्तु पत्र पढ़ने के पूर्व ही बाबा उनसे कहने लगे – अरे । मैंने वहाँ जाने का वचन दिया था तो मैंने उसे धोखा नहीं दिया । उसे सूचित करो कि मैं अन्य दो व्यक्तियों के साथ भोजन में उपस्थित था, परन्तु जब वह मुझे पहचान ही न सका, तब निमंत्रम देने का कष्ट ही क्यों उठाया था । उसे लिखो कि उसने सोचा होगा कि वह सन्यासी चन्दा माँगने आया है । परन्तु क्या मैंने उसका सन्देह दूर नहीं कर दिया था कि दो अन्य व्यक्तियों के सात मैं भोजन के लिये आऊँगा और क्या वे त्रिमूर्तियाँ ठीक समय पर भोजन में सम्मिलित नहीं हुई देखो । मैं अपना वचन पूर्ण करने के लिये अपना सर्वस्व निछावर कर दूँगा । मेरे शब्द कभी असत्य न निकलेंगें । इस उत्तर से जोग के हृदय में बहुत प्रसन्नता हुई और उन्होंने पूर्ण उत्तर लिखकर देव को भेज दिया । जब देव ने उत्तर पढ़ा तो उनकी आँखों से अश्रुधाराँए प्रवाहित होने लगी । उन्हें अपने आप पर बड़ा क्रोध आ रहा था कि मैंने व्यर्थ ही बाबा पर दोषारोपण किया । वे आश्चर्यचकित से हो गये कि किस तरह मैंने सन्यासी की पूर्व यात्रा से धोखा खाया, जो कि चन्दा माँगने आया था और सन्यासी के शब्दों का अर्थ भी न समझ पाया कि अन्य दो व्यक्तियों के साथ मैं भोजन को आऊँगा ।

इस कथा से विदित होता है कि जब भक्त अनन्य भाव से सदगुरु की सरण में आता है, तभी उसे अनुभव होने लगता है कि उसके सब धार्मिक कृत्य उत्तम प्रकार से चलते और निर्विघ्र समाप्त होते रहते है ।



हेमाडपन्त का होली त्यौहार पर भोजन-समारोह

अब हम एक दूसरी कथा ले, जिसमें बतलाया गया है कि बाबा ने किस प्रकार चित्र के रुप में प्रगट हो कर अपने भक्तों की इच्छा पूर्ण की ।



सन् 1917 में होली पूर्णिमा के दिन हेमाडपंत को एक स्वप्न हुआ । बाबा उन्हें एक सन्यासी के वेश में दिखे और उन्होंने हेमाडपंत को जगाकर कहा कि मैं आज दोपहर को तुम्हारे यहाँ भोजन करने आऊँगा । जागृत करना भी स्वप्न का एक भाग ही था । परन्तु जब उनकी निद्रा सचमुच में भंग हुई तो उन्हें न तो बाबा और न कोई अन्य सन्यासी ही दिखाई दिया । वे अपनी स्मृति दौड़ाने लगे और अब उन्हें सन्यासी के प्रत्येक शब्द की स्मृति हो आई । यघपि वे बाबा के सानिध्य का लाभ गत सात वर्षों से उठा रहे थे तथा उन्हीं का निरन्तर ध्यान किया करते थे, परन्तु यह कभी भी आशा न थी कि बाबा भी कभी उनके घर पधार कर भोजन कर उन्हें कृतार्थ करेंगे । बाबाके शब्दों से अति हर्षित होते हुए वे अपनी पत्नी के समीप गये और कहा कि आज होली का दिन है । एक सन्यासी अतिथि भोजन के लिये अपने यहाँ पधारेंगे । इसलिये भात थोड़ा अधिक बनाना । उनकी पत्नी ने अतिथि के सम्बन्ध में पूछताछ की । प्रत्युत्तर में हेमाडपंत ने बात गुप्त न रखकर स्वप्न का वृतान्त सत्य-सत्य बतला दिया । तब वे सन्देहपूर्वक पूछने लगी कि क्या यह भी कभी संभव है कि वे शिरडी के उत्तम पकवान त्यागकर इतनी दूर बान्द्रा में अपना रुखा-सूका भोजन करने को पधारेंगे । हेमाडपंत ने विश्वास दिलाया कि उनके लिये क्या असंभव है । हो सकता है, वे स्वयं न आयें और कोई अन्य स्वरुप धारण कर पधारे । इस कारण थोड़ा अधिक भात बनाने में हानि ही क्या है । इसके उपरान्त भोजन की तैयारियाँ प्रारम्भ हो गई । दो पंक्तियाँ बनाई गई और बीच मे अतिथिके लिये स्थान छोड़ दिया गया । घर के सभी कुटुम्बी-पुत्र, नाती, लड़कियाँ, दामाद इत्यादि ने अपना-अपना स्थान ग्रहम कर लिया और भोजन परोसना भी प्रारम्भ हो गया । जब भोजन परोसा जा रहा था तो प्रत्येक व्यक्ति उस अज्ञात अतिथि की उत्सुकतापूर्वक राह देख रहा था । जब मध्याहृ भी हो गया और कोई भी न आया, तब द्घार बन्द कर साँकल चढ़ा दी गई । अन्न शुद्घि के लिये घृत वितरण हुआ, जो कि भोजन प्रारम्भ करने का संकेत है । वैश्वदेव (अग्नि) को औपचारिक आहुति देकर श्रीकृष्ण को नैवेघ अर्पण किया गया । फिर सभी लोग जैसे ही भोजन प्रारम्भ करने वाले थे कि इतने में सीढ़ी पर किसी के चढ़ने की आहट स्पष्ट आने लगी । हेमाडपंत ने शीघ्र उठकर साँकल खोली और दो व्यक्तियों



1. अली मुहम्मद और

2. मौलाना इस्मू मुजावर को द्गार पर खड़े हुए पाया ।



इन लोगों ने जब देखा कि भोजन परोसा जा चुका है और केवल प्रारम्भ करना ही शेष है तो उन्होंने विनीत भाव में कहा कि आपको बड़ी असुविधा हुई, इसके लिये हम क्षमाप्रार्थी है । आप अपनी थाली छोड़कर दौड़े आये है तथा अन्य लोग भी आपकी प्रतीक्षा में है, इसलिये आप अपनी यह संपदा सँभालिये । इससे सम्बन्धित आश्चर्यजनक घटना किसी अन्य सुविधाजनक अवसर पर सुनायेंगें – ऐसा कहकर उन्होंने पुराने समाचार पत्रों में लिपटा हुआ एक पैकिट निकालकर उसे खोलकर मेज पर रख दिया । कागज के आवरण को ज्यों ही हेमाडपंत ने हटाया तो उन्हें बाबा का एक बड़ा सुन्दर चित्र देखकर महान् आश्चर्य हुआ । बाबा का चित्र देखकर वे द्रवित हो गये । उनके नेत्रों से आँसुओं की धारा प्रवाहित होने लगी और उनके समूचे शरीर में रोमांच हो आया । उनका मस्तक बाबा के श्री चरणों पर झुक गया । वे सोचने लगे किबाबा ने इस लीला के रुप में ही मुझे आर्शीवाद दिया है । कौतूहलवश उन्होंने अली मुहम्मद से प्रश्न किया कि बाबा का यह मनोहर चित्र आपको कहाँ से प्राप्त हुआ । उन्होंने बताया कि मैंने इसे एक दुकान से खरीदा था । इसका पूर्ण विवरण मैं किसी अन्य समय के लिये शेष रखता हूँ । कृपया आप अब भोजन कीजिए, क्योंकि सभी आपकी ही प्रतीक्षा कर रहे है । हेमाडपंत ने उन्हें धन्यवाद देकर नमस्कार किया और भोजन गृह में आकर अतिथि के स्थान पर चित्र कोमध्य में रखा तथा विधिपूर्वक नैवेघ अर्पम किया । सब लोगों ने ठीक समय पर भोजन प्रारम्भ कर दिया । चित्र में बाबा का सुन्दर मनोहर रुप देखकर प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को प्रसन्नता होने लगी और इस घटना पर आश्चर्य भी हुआ कि वह सब कैसे घटित हुआ । इस प्रकार बाबा ने हेमाडपंत को स्वप्न में दिये गये अपने वचनों को पूर्ण किया ।

इस चित्र की कथा का पूर्ण विवरण, अर्थात् अली मुहम्मद को चित्र कैसे प्राप्त हुआ और किस कारण से उन्होंने उसे लाकर हेमा़डपंत को भेंट किया, इसका वर्णन अगले अध्याय में किया जायेगा ।

Stories
of Baba

(1) Attending Mrs.Deo's Udyapan Ceremony as a Sannyasi with two Others
(Trio) and - (2) Hemadpant's House in the Form of His Picture.



In this chapter we give two stories; (1) How Baba attended the Udyapan
ceremony of Mr.B.V.Deo's mother at his house at Dahanu and (2) How Baba
attended the Shimga dinner-party in Hemadpant's house at Bandra.



Preliminary



Blessed is
Shri Sai Samartha who gives instructions in both temporal and spiritual matters
to His devotees and makes them happy by enabling them to achieve the goal of
their life, - Sai He who when places His hand on their heads transfers His
powers to them and thus destroying the sense of differentiation, makes them
attain the Unattainable Thing. - He who embraces the Bhaktas who prostrate
themselves before Him with no sense of duality or difference. He becomes one
with the Bhaktas as the sea with the rivers when they meet it in the rainy
season and gives them His power and position. It follows from this that he who
sings the Leelas of God's Bhaktas is equally or more dear to Him than one who
sangs the Leelas of God only. Now to revert to the stories of this chapter.



Mrs.Deo's Udyapan Ceremony



Mr.B.V.Deo
was a Mamlatdar at Dahanu (Thana District). His mother had observed 25 or 30
different vows and a Udyapan (concluding) ceremony in connection therewith was
to be performed. This ceremony included the feeding of 100 or 200 Brahmins.
Mr.Deo fixed a date for the ceremony and wrote a letter to Bapusaheb Jog asking
him to request Sai Baba on his behalf to attend the dinner of the ceremony, as
without His attendance the ceremony would not be duly completed. Bapusaheb Jog
read out the letter to Baba. Baba noted carefully the pure-hearted invitation
and said - "I always think of him who remembers Me. I require no
conveyance, carriage, tanga, nor train nor aeroplane. I run and manifest myself
to him who lovingly calls me. Write to him a pleasing reply that three of us
(the trio), Myself, yourself and a third will go and attend it." Mr.Jog
informed Mr.Deo of what Baba said. The latter was much pleased, but he knew
that Baba never went to any place except Rahata, Rui and Nimgaon in person. He
also thought that nothing was impossible to Baba as He was all-pervading and
that He might suddenly come, in any form He likes and fulfill His words.



A few days before this, a Sannyasi with Bengali dress and professing to work
for the cause of the protection of the cows, came to the station-master at
Dahanu to collect subscriptions. The latter told him to go into the town and
see the Mamlatdar (Mr.Deo) and with his help collect funds. Just then the
Mamlatdar happened to come there. The station-master then introduced the
Sannyasi to him. Both sat talking on the platform. Mr.Deo told him that a
subscription-list for some other charitable cause had already been opened by
the leading citizen Rao Saheb Narottam Shetti and so it was not good to start another
subscription-list and that it would be better if he would visit the place after
2 or 4 months. Hearing this, the Sannyasi left the place.



About a month afterwards, the Sannyasi came in a tanga and stopped in front
of Mr.Deo's house at about 10 a.m.
Deo thought that he came for subscriptions. Seeing him busy with the
preparations of the ceremony, the Sannyasi said that he had come not for money
but for meals. Deo said - "Alright, very glad, you are welcome, the house
is yours." The Sannyasi - "Two lads are with me." Deo -
"Well, come with them." As there was time (2 hours) for dinner, Deo
enquired where he should send for them. He said that it was not necessary as he
would come himself at the appointed time. Deo asked him to come at noon. Exactly at twelve noon, the Trio came and joined the
dinner party and after feeding themselves went away.



After the ceremony was finished, Deo wrote a letter to Bapusaheb Jog
complaining of Baba's breach of promise. Jog went to Baba with the letter, but
before it was opened Baba spoke - "Ah, he says that I promised him to come
but deceived him. Inform him that I did attend his dinner with two others, but
he failed to recognize Me. Then why did he call me at all? Tell him that he
thought that the Sannyasi came to ask for subscription money; did I not remove
his doubt in that respect and did I not say that I would come with two others,
and did not the Trio come in time and take their meals? See, to keep My words I
would sacrifice my life, I would never be untrue to My words." This reply
gladdened Jog's heart and he communicated the whole of the reply to Deo. As
soon as he read it, he burst into tears of joy, but he took himself to task
mentally for vainly blaming Baba. He wondered how he was deceived by the
Sannyasi's prior visit and his coming to him for subscriptions, how he also
failed to catch the significance of the Sannyasi's words that he would come
with two others for meals.



This story clearly shows that when the devotees surrender themselves
completely to their Sad-guru, He sees that the religious functions in their
houses are duly executed and complied with all the necessary formalities.



Hemadpant's Shimga Dinner



Now let us
take another story which shows how Baba appeared in the form of His picture and
fulfilled the desire of His devotee.



In 1917 on the full-moon morning, Hemadpant had a vision. Baba appeared to
him in his dream in the form of a well-dressed Sannyasi, woke him up, and said
that He would come to him for meals that day. This awakening constituted a part
of the dream. When he fully awoke, he saw no Sai nor any Sannyasi. But when he
began to recollect the dream, he remembered each and every word the Sannyasi
uttered in his dream. Though he was in contact with Baba for seven years and
though he always meditated on Baba, he never expected that Baba would come to
his house for meals. However, being much pleased with Baba's words, he went to
his wife and informed her that being the Holi day, a Sannyasi guest was coming
for meals and that some more rice should be prepared. She enquired about the
guest, who he was and whence he was coming. Then not to lead her astray and not
to cause any misunderstanding he gave her the truth, i.e., told her about the
dream. She doubtingly asked whether it was possible that Baba should come there
(Bandra) from Shirdi, leaving the dainty dishes there for accepting their
coarse food. Hemadpant then assured her that Baba might not come in person but
He might attend in the form of a guest and that they would lose nothing if they
cooked some more rice.



After this, preparations for the dinner went on and it was quite ready at noon. The Holika-worship was gone
through and the leaves (dishes) were spread and arranged with 'Rangoli' marks
around them. Two rows were put up with a central seat between them for the
guest. All the members of the family - sons, grandsons, daughters and
sons-in-law etc., came and occupied their proper seats and the serving of the
various articles commenced. While this was being done, everybody was watching for
the guest, but none turned up though it was past noon. Then the door was closed and chained; the
anna-shuddhi (ghee) was served. This was a signal to start eating. Formal
offering to the Vaishwadeva (Fire), and Naivedya to Shri Krishna were also over
and the members were about to begin, when foot-steps in the staircase were
distinctly heard. Hemadpant went immediately and opened the door and saw two
men there: (1) Ali Mahomed and (2) Moulana Ismu Mujavar. These two persons,
seeing that meals were ready and all the members were about to begin eating,
apologized to Hemadpant and requested him to excuse their interference. They
said - "You left your seat and came running to us, others are waiting for
you, so please take this your Thing
and I shall relate all the wonderful tale about it later on at your
convenience." So saying he took out from his arm-pit a packet wrapped in
an old newspaper cover and placed it on the table. Hemadpant uncovered the
packet and saw, to his great wonder and surprise, a big nice picture of Sai
Baba. Seeing it, he was much moved, tears ran from his eyes and hair stood on
end all over his body, and he bent and placed his head on the feet of Baba in
the picture. He thought that Baba had blessed him by this miracle or Leela. Out
of curiosity he asked Ali Mahomed whence he got this picture. He said that he
bought it from a shop and that he would give all the details about it some time
afterwards and wished that as all the members were waiting for him, he should
go and join them. Hemadpant thanked him, bade them good-bye and returned to the
dinning-hall. The picture was placed on the central seat reserved for the guest
and after the due offering of the Naivedya, the whole party commenced eating
and finished it in proper time. Seeing the beautiful form in the picture
everybody was extremely pleased and wondered how all this happened.



The is how Sai Baba kept up and fulfilled His words uttered by Him in the
dream of Hemadpant. The story of the picture with all its details, viz., how
Ali Mahomed got it, why he bought it and gave it to Hemadpant, is reserved for
the next chapter.
